Only the future will make it clear whether the decision or choice was right or wrong. Many times, we regret the choice made by us but once the choice has been made, it cannot be altered. There is only one career that you can pursue in. The road’ is the symbol of the choice made by us. The poem masquerades as a meditation about choice, but the critic William Pritchard suggests that the speaker is admitting that choosing one. The poet refers to the two roads as the career choices available in life. They will eventually be far from the two original choices. The Road Not Taken Summary Our speaker has come to a fork in a path in the woods. “And both that morning equally lay in leaves no step had trodden black.” This means that both paths had not yet been muddied by footsteps.
